I'm sure it wasn't perfect, in fact, I know it wasn't, but we did strive for beauty, we wore out best clothes on best days, we watched shows on TV that had elegance, real orchestras and a sense of whimsy, our dreams were all possible at the Peak...even for us.

Raisins In Everything

You can make of the title what you will! Imagine Vestra curries, on a Friday night, they had raisins in them, or were they currants? My dad ate a lot of raisins. Handfuls. We had raisin Treets....and everything seemed full of raisin.

Folk Can Rock

Seems back then everyone had a dance that everyone knew, all folk could rock, or jive, or waltz or swing....folks simply rocked.

Brassneck

Everyone played an instrument, or read the newspaper, or played draughts. Peak entertainment!

Somewhere In Dreamland

Perhaps it was all material, but I dreamed of rows of models cars, a new bike, Christmas all year, an entire sweet shop, and sparkly lights, especially sparkly lights...I'd have raced to school to tell my dreams....

I was born after 1959, but it pervaded me, as if I was there - I wish I was, I always did...I wanted a big chrome American car......pity I dont drive. But the best view then was the car itself, and us working class folks saw Americana as a dream, just a dream anyway.
